Welcome to the world of rare dimes – worth millions!
The hobby of coin collecting (called ‘numismatics’) is very interesting. And when it comes to “rare dimes”, you will be surprised to know the price of these small silver coins. These dimes seem very ordinary on the face of it, but in the right condition, history and rarity, their value can go up to millions.
Today we will tell you about 5 rarest dimes whose total value is more than $2.5 million (approximately ₹21 crores)! These are not just coins, but stories of history that are embedded in themselves.
What makes a dime so valuable?

The price of any dime depends on many things:
- Mintage: How many of that coin were printed.
- Condition: How good condition the coin is in.
- Historical Significance: Whether that coin has any historical significance or not.
- Minting Errors: If there is any mistake in printing, its price increases.
- Demand: How much interest collectors have in that coin.
1.1894-S Barber Dime – Price: $1,997,500
This dime is the biggest star in the world of coin collectors. Only 24 pieces of it were produced, and only 9 are left today. According to a story, the superintendent of the San Francisco Mint gave some coins to his daughter and said that these would become very valuable. But the daughter spent one of those coins to buy ice cream!
Today, if this coin is sold in auction, then its price can reach around 20 lakh dollars i.e. about ₹ 17 crores.
2. 1873-CC Seated Liberty Dime (No Arrow) – Price: $300,000 – $400,000
This coin was minted at the Carson City Mint and is an extremely rare type. In 1873, the weight of the dime was increased slightly in the US, and two small arrows were added near the date on the new coins. But some coins were minted before that, without the arrows – and those became the “no arrow” version.
Only one coin of this version has ever been found, making it even more special.
3. 1872-CC Seated Liberty Dime – Price: $250,000 – $300,000

This is another precious coin from the Carson City Mint. Its production number was also very low – just 35,480. And most of those coins were used, so there are very few coins left in good condition. The coin’s historical significance and low numbers make it extremely valuable.
4. 1797 Draped Bust Dime (16 Stars) – Price: $150,000 – $200,000
This coin dates back to the early days of America, when the country was just starting to form. It has 16 stars on it, which symbolize the 16 states that were in the US at the time. It has a very unique design – a portrait of Liberty on one side and an eagle and wreath on the other.
Its age, historical significance, and rarity in good condition make it extremely valuable.
5. 1874-CC Seated Liberty Dime – Price: $100,000 – $150,000
This coin is also associated with the Carson City Mint. Only 10,817 coins were minted that year, and many of those coins were worn out due to common use. Because of this, there are very few coins left in good condition.
Today, if a collector has it in mint condition, then its price can be up to ₹ 1.25 crores.
